Forest of Sacred Trees: A Journey on the Alishan Forest Railway — Special Screening in Tokyo, Japan

The 8K documentary “Forest of Sacred Trees – The Alishan Forest Railway of Taiwan”(神木之森-台灣阿里山森林鐵道), jointly produced by Taiwan Public Television Service (PTS) and Japan’s NHK, held a special screening on September 21 at United Cinemas in Odaiba, Tokyo.

 

Distinguished guests at the event included I-Yang Lee(李逸洋), Representative of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in Japan; Frank Hsieh(謝長廷), Chairman of the Taiwan Renewal Foundation; Kato Taku(加藤拓), Director of NHK’s International Content Division; Hara Makoto(原真), Vice Chairman of the Taiwan–Japan Industry and Economy Friendship Promotion Association; and Toru Ishida(石田亨), Director of The Railway Museum in Omiya, among other prominent figures.

 

Leaders from Taiwan and Japan’s cultural, political, and media sectors gathered for the occasion. The venue was filled to capacity, creating a vibrant and moving atmosphere that reflected the significance of this cross-border collaboration.Kuai Shan Fang founders Chris Lee(李清勇) and Rachel Huang(黃素秋) were also invited to attend, witnessing firsthand the achievements of this landmark Taiwan–Japan co-production.

 

With a history spanning more than a century, the **Alishan Forest Railway** is not only a shared memory for the people of Taiwan, but also a powerful symbol of the deep cultural ties between Taiwan and Japan. From its original construction to its ongoing preservation, countless individuals have dedicated their efforts to ensuring that this historic railway continues to run — connecting the histories and emotions of both nations.For this reason, the documentary is more than a cinematic work; it stands as a tribute to enduring friendship that transcends time and borders.
